Intake of Depleted Uranium

  • The average adult annual intake of uranium is approximately 0.5 mg from the ingestion of food and drinking water. Another 0.6 mg should come from taking in air.
  • The ingestion of minute amounts of contaminated DU soil by young children can happen while they are playing.
  • Contamination of DU can also occur via contact through skin. This type of exposure is very low and almost insignificant.
  • Contamination from wounds or having contaminated fragments in the skin can help DU to enter the human systemic circulation.
